News: Revised Criteria for Footwear adopted on 5th August 2016
After 3 years of development involving representatives of industry, government, environmental and consumer organisations revised criteria for the footwear product group have been adopted by the Commission and published in the Official Journal.
Thursday, 11th August 2016
The criteria aim to reward those products which have a lower environmental impact mainly in terms of depletion of natural resources, emissions to water, air and soil from manufacturing processes and which contribute to the environmental dimension of sustainable development along their life cycle, are durable, and restrict the presence of hazardous substances. The revised criteria also introduce requirements regarding labour conditions at the final assembly site.
The revised criteria are valid for six years until 2022. To be awarded the European Ecolabel each criterion has to be complied with.
